Inspect before moving it

Look for moisture, mold, tears, stains, pests, and exposed springs. Tell the provider what you find before the appointment. Condition can affect whether the mattress can be safely handled and where it may be accepted.

Do not seal a damp mattress in plastic. Trapped moisture makes the problem worse.

Separate the full bed set

Identify the mattress, foundation or box spring, frame rails, headboard, slats, and hardware. Group hardware in a closed bag and mark which frame it belongs to.

Remove sheets, toppers, and loose fabric. Keep anything that must stay away from the removal group.

Measure the doorway and every turn

Mattresses flex, but thick foam and hybrid models may not bend safely. Measure elevator depth and narrow turns as well as the unit opening. Note whether the route includes stairs or an exterior drive-up door.

Share the size and quantity when requesting an estimate. “One bed” can mean one mattress or a full multi-piece set.

Protect the route and the facility

Ask the facility about cart rules, elevator reservations, and vendor access. Keep the hallway clear and avoid leaning the mattress where it blocks neighboring units.
